Mission
Damico Health works year-round to expand access to high-quality medical care for underserved communities in Uganda. We focus on care that changes lives: acute treatment, surgery, palliative care, and the education of local healthcare providers. We partner with local clinicians and institutions to build lasting capacity, not to substitute for it.
Damico Health is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a permanent, year-round medical team based in Uganda.
Vision
We believe quality care should not depend on where a person lives or what they can afford. Our data consistently shows that distance is rarely what keeps patients from care in Uganda. Cost is. People will travel for care they trust and can afford. Our work removes that barrier, delivering meaningful treatment directly and strengthening the local providers who carry the work forward between our visits.
We also bring something most patients in these communities could never otherwise reach: specialists. Through our network of clinicians, we give people the ability to be seen by consultants and surgeons they would normally never have access to, connecting rural patients to expertise that is usually confined to major cities or out of reach entirely.
Our Path Forward
Damico Health began with annual medical outreach. We have since become a year-round organization built around a permanent in-country team. That shift lets us focus on care that solves real problems rather than temporary relief, and to invest in the people and tools that make care sustainable.
Three priorities guide our work. First, acute and quality-of-life care: surgery, palliative care, women's health, and treatment that meaningfully changes a patient's life. Second, education: training the local nurses, clinicians, and village-level providers who manage patients every day, closing gaps in healthcare knowledge where they matter most. Third, tools: developing practical technology like our free, open-source field electronic medical record so that other global health providers can deliver better care anywhere.
