Led by Dr. Alfredo Kiernan, an obstetrician-gynecologist and global health advocate, Damico Health’s women’s health program combines clinical excellence, social impact, and academic innovation. The Women’s Health Initiative works to close the healthcare gap for women in underserved communities by expanding access to essential reproductive, maternal, and preventive services. Our goal is to ensure that every woman - regardless of geography or socioeconomic status - can obtain quality, evidence-based care.
Our program integrates preventive screening, vaccination, and education to reduce preventable disease and improve maternal outcomes. Routine cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination form the backbone of our prevention strategy, protecting young women and girls from one of the most common causes of cancer-related death in Uganda. Complementary services in family planning and maternal health counseling empower women to make informed reproductive choices, reducing maternal mortality and improving family well-being.
Under Dr. Kiernan’s leadership, Damico Health also serves as a learning platform; training local providers, generating community-based data, and advancing research on women’s health delivery in low-resource settings.
